Professional Membership

IBCOT Professional Membership

Annual membership dues are $395, the same at initial approval and at every renewal. Dues include the Member Standards Orientation, the IBCOT Official Document Translation Training Program, AI and technology education, practice and business resources, and the certification pathway.

Eligibility

Who is eligible

  1. You are 18 or older.
  2. You declare written competence in English and at least one additional language. Languages are member-declared; IBCOT does not test general language fluency.
  3. You have a professional or emerging-professional connection to bilingual, translation, interpreting, language-service, legal-support, or community-language work.
  4. You accept the ethics, confidentiality, truthful-claims, AI-responsibility, and conduct requirements.
  5. You pass identity, duplicate-account, and fraud checks, and you receive approval before any charge or activation.

Three pathways

Three admission pathways, one piece of evidence each

Admission requires no portfolio, no translation test, no years-of-experience threshold, and no excessive documentation.

  • Invited

    Prequalified invitation

A recipient-bound invitation issued after IBCOT documented a professional source. The invitation itself satisfies the connection requirement.
  • Practicing

    Practicing professional

One piece of evidence: a LinkedIn profile, professional website, resume excerpt, association membership, employer attestation, redacted work record, or other evidence of translation, interpreting, legal-support, or language-service work.
  • Emerging

    Emerging bilingual professional

One modest connection: bilingual employment, language education, current language studies, bilingual community or volunteer work, bilingual legal-support activity, a professional reference, a recognized language credential, or an approved invitation. No translation experience is required. Admitted as an Associate Member (not listed in the directory) until promoted to Professional Member by passing the Core section or an approved experience review.
